Week 3 Summary
As a school we endeavour to create opportunities for students to do relevant, meaningful and engaging work in class. As we walked the halls this past Thursday afternoon and visited classes, we saw some really great learning happening. In Earth Science, students were learning about rock types (sedimentary, igneous, & metamorphic) by comparing them to chocolate bars and making some real life connections. In Woodwork 10 students had to design and make a table out of one 2×4. The range of creativity and talent was awesome. In Social Studies 10, Ms. Cyr’s class had artifacts from World War 1 that came from the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. Students had to inquire about the function of each artifact – with some obvious items such as a helmet and some items that were difficult to determine their specific use in war time. The common denominator in each class was engaged learning – which ultimately what we as a school strive for!
School Clubs & Sports
The launch of our Drama Club with Mr. Sanderson, which runs on Tuesdays after school at 2:45, was a hit with 23 aspiring performers attending. All students are welcome!! Open to students in grades 8-12. No experience necessary!!
Coach MacDonald is starting drop-in volleyball this Tuesday, see the PE bulletin for sign-up and details! This is a multi-grade opportunity & no experience necessary. Come out and learn to Bump, Set & Spike!

Staff & Program Profile: Lauren O’Leary & Shannon Sharpe (Counsellors)
The counselling department at Westview this year is represented by Lauren O’Leary (responsible for Grades 9, 11 and 12s with last names A-L) and Shannon Sharpe (responsible for Grades 8, 10 and 12’s with last names M-Z). Although due to safety protocols the counselling office is not open to drop-ins, students are still welcome and encouraged to make individual appointments online should they need support! Students have adapted to using the QR code posted around the school, through which they are able to book an appointment and then we come to their class and get them. The role of the school counsellor involves supporting the social emotional needs of students, promoting student wellness, connecting to community resources and post-secondary / career counselling. We recognize that students are in a time of transition as we all adjust to this unprecedented year and managing mental health and wellness is more important than ever. Please encourage your student to reach out should they like to meet with one of our school counsellors.
Student Fees
Student fees for the 2020/21 school year are $28.00 and payment through the Portal is requested. If for certain reasons you cannot use the Portal, a cheque payable to Westview Secondary or exact change in a sealed envelope will be accepted.
Yearbooks 2019-20
Any students who have purchased yearbooks last year and have not picked up their copy, please come to the office for their yearbook.
