Westview Basketball Academy
**ANNOUNCEMENT**
Westview is proud to be a Nike sponsored school for our Basketball Academy. All our academy players will exclusively wear Nike gear & uniforms. We know this partnership with a global brand will benefit our student-athletes in the Westview Basketball Academy.
The Westview Basketball Academy has been developed to provide year round basketball training in an academy setting for motivated players who want to improve and further develop their basketball and athletic skills. Academy leaders will instruct, coach, teach and model what it means to be a student-athlete of the highest calibre.
Basketball instruction will be augmented with classroom theory sessions, strength and conditioning classes and guest speakers.
Student-athletes will enthusiastically give back to the basketball community through connections with elementary and youth basketball programs, which will provide valuable coaching, refereeing, leadership and mentorship opportunities.
Students enrolled in the course will be above average students, show outstanding citizenship within the school and community, and show proficiency in basketball.
Academy Course Structure
Students will select BAA-Advanced Basketball as an elective course and will receive four credits toward completion of their Graduation Program.
Basketball Academy courses will offer instruction in the classroom, on the basketball court and in the weight room. In the classroom, students will receive instruction in sports psychology and physiology, fitness and nutrition, goal setting and time management, leadership skills, social-emotional skills and recovery. Academy students will receive instruction in coaching, officiating, first aid and sports training, including certification through the National Coaching Certification Program.
In the weight room, students will learn basketball-specific strength training, fitness and athletic skills. On court sessions will focus on physical literacy and fundamental movement skills, and athletic skills guided by Canada Basketball’s Long Term Athlete Development model. Basketball specific skill development will include individual skills, team concepts and decision-making.
The Advanced Basketball courses do not include games. Student-athletes in the Basketball Academy may try out for Westview’s school teams.

Fee Structure:
The fee for the Westview Basketball Academy for 2026/2027 season will be $800 (full year) and $450 (half year). This includes a player gear package, including a custom basketball, qualified basketball instruction and coaching, specialized equipment and supplies and resources.
