NEW AND OLD THSS CLOTHING ON SALE!!!! 

NEW CLOTHING:  There are two new THSS logos for clothing.  Clothing will be on sale from November 18 – January 16.  Samples to try on for sizing will be available at lunch outside of the Rotunda after Nov. 24.

Pictures and order forms will be located on the board next to the Intramural board (outside the rotunda) starting November 18.  There will be t-shirts, long sleeves, hoodies, crewnecks, and sweat pants available.  All details and prices will be on the order forms.

OLD CLOTHING:

For the week of November 18-21 at lunch, outside the rotunda, there will a clothing sale with old THSS logos, team t-shirts, and cinch bags.  Everything will be on sale, and priced to clear…the only catch is that there are limited sizes. First come, first served.  We cannot put anything on hold, so bring your money and check out the selection.  Prices will vary between $10 – 30.

TEXTILES 10 STUDENTS: the sewing room will be open tomorrow, Wednesday, November 19 from 3:00 – 4:30 to finish Learning Guides 1 through 3 for the first report card.

The Happening Arts & Crafts Fair:  If you have signed up to help with the craft fair on Nov. 29 and 30 please come to an important meeting at lunch on FRIDAY THIS WEEK in room 2145.  Information regarding schedules will also be given at this time.  Thanks, Mrs. Ryan
The Key Club is hosting a toy drive to collect Christmas presents for underprivileged children between the ages of 2 – 12. If you have any unused toys, please bring them to the office before December 1.

THSS GRAD PHOTOS: If you haven’t already booked your grad portraits, please go to www.mountainwest.ca/ and book your appointment online.  There are still appointments available on January 13 and 14.

THSS GRAD CLOTHING:

The Grad Clothing will be on sale until Nov 21.  There will only be one order this year so don’t miss out!

Order forms can be picked up on the board outside the rotunda, near the girls’ change rooms.

Forms and money need to be handed into Mrs. Coghill or Mrs. Clayton.

LANGUAGES STUDENTS:  The languages teachers are having a work blitz this week in room 2145 at lunch.  (Monday – Thursday).  Bring your French or Spanish and your lunches.  Attendance is taken.

SKIERS & BOARDERS:  Interested in shredding some powder at Whistler and Cypress?? See Mr. Williams or Ms. Fischer to find about more about our ski trips this year. Permission forms and money are due this Friday, November 21. Don’t miss out!

 

THE RIDGE MEADOWS VOLLEYBALL CLUB: is trying to get a boys’ volleyball team going for the 2015 season.  If you have a son born between 2001 and 2003 in grades 6-8 who is interested in playing,
please contact Sue Soolsma at rmvc@shaw.ca.  Tryouts take place on Monday, Nov 24 at Webster’s Corner Elementary School from 7:30-9:00pm, and we will run a few practices in December just to see if the boys like it.  There will be no cost for the tryouts or these practices.

THSS CLOTHING DRIVE:  November 24 – December 15: Please bring in any old bedding, towels, purses, shoes or clothing.  Drop off is beside the Lost & Found bin located near the office.  Clearly label all donation bags with student TA #.

Grade 10 and 11 Students:  Rotary Youth Exchange:  Interested in attending school in another country for one school year starting in September 2015?   If so, you and your parents are welcome to attend an information meeting on Tuesday, November 25th at 7 pm here at THSS.  Only one student will be selected. GRAD FEES are now available to be paid on the parent portal.

Cap & Gown $50.00, Dinner / Dance $60.00 per ticket (you can purchase 2 if you are bringing a guest), Dry Grad $30.00 per ticket (you can purchase 2 if you are bringing a guest).  Parents will be welcome to attend early at Meadow Gardens for photos, but the Dinner / Dance is for students and one guest only (not parents).

For information from the Career Centre about all work experience opportunities, post-secondary information and scholarship information, please see the Career Centre website (http://schools.sd42.ca/thscareer/), bulletin boards and/or newsletter.

Page Program: Become a page at the House of Commons.  This is a unique opportunity to learn about the Canadian parliamentary system. Each year, 40 exceptional students from across Canada are selected to take part in this program. This is for graduating grade 12 students with an academic average of 80% and can speak both official languages.  Apply online at parl.gc.ca/hocpage by December 8, 2014.

Career Info Night:  Hosted by Maple Ridge Secondary for grades 10, 11 and 12 and their parents in the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows district.  This is an opportunity to listen and interact with a wide variety of people active in their professions and trades. The date is Wednesday, December 3 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Pre-register online at www.mapleridgesecondary.ca and click on Career Information Night.

GRAD INFORMATION:

  • BCIT’s Big Info Session: tomorrow, Wednesday, November 19th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, at their Burnaby Campus. To register, please visit bcit.ca/biginfo
  • McGill University will be visiting Maple Ridge Secondary on Thursday, November 20th at 1:20 pm in the library. This event is open to all students in the district.
  • Canadian Tourism College Open House: November 20th from 9:00 – 3:00 p.m.  Open to Grade 11 & 12 students. Limited seating so reserve now at receptionary@tourismcollege.com.
  • Explore Capilano – Info Night is on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Birch Atrium.
  • PSI (Post-Secondary Day): Thursday, November 27 starting at 9 a.m. Universities and Colleges throughout B.C. will be here to provide the students with information about their programs.  While it is primarily intended for grade 12’s, it is also very beneficial for interested grade 11’s and even grade 10’s to attend for part of the morning.
  • UBC’s Engineering Open House: November 29th from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at UBC.
  • Emily Carr’s National Portfolio Day is on Saturday, December 6 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS & BURSARIES:

Quest for Excellence: Remax of Canada will reward 16 bursaries of $1,000 each. The application deadline is: March 9, 2015. Enter at www.remax.ca

The Canadian Schulich Leader Scholarships are undergraduate scholarships for students intending to enroll in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) areas of study. Each secondary school may submit one Schulich Leader nominee. A candidate must possess two out of the three: outstanding community, business or entrepreneurial leadership; academic excellence and financial need. Two scholarships, one worth $60,000 and one for $80,000. If interested in being sponsored or if you have any questions, please see Mrs. Domitruk in the Career Centre.  The deadline to apply is tomorrow, Wednesday, November 19th.
