If you love horses and are in grade 9-12, the Thomas Haney Equestrian Program is for you! Owning a horse is not a requirement for any of the courses and you can be a serious competitor or a complete novice. The only requirement is a passion and desire to learn more about horses and all things equestrian related!
The original Thomas Haney Equestrian Academy was founded in 2008 and saw many students graduate to become successful farriers, coaches, and attend post-secondary equestrian programs at Kwantlen University, The University of the Fraser Valley, and Olds College.
Guests speakers and field trips have included: David Thompson (Equine Law), Maureen Walters (UFV Equine Studies/FEI Steward), Chelan Kozak (CET Olympian), Dr. Nick Klieder, Potsma Freisians, Kay Vienoitte (EC Driving Coach), Paton and Martin Equine Surgical hospital, The Mane Event, Thunderbird Show Park, Vancouver Police Stables, Kwantlen University Farrier College (Gerard Laverty Master Journeyman Farrier), AAHBC Spring Show, Cavalia, The Dog and Pony Shop, Stampede Tack, Greenhawk Tack, Equine Massage Therapist, Southlands Riding Club and many more!
The equestrian program is now open to all grade 9-12 students in SD #42 (space permitting) and consists of four courses, earning up to 16 graduation credits: Equine Studies 10, Equine Studies 11, Equine Studies 12 and Independent Directed Studies 12.
