Welcome back! We hope you are enjoying the fantastic weather we have had this summer. As we inch closer to September 4th, we wanted to share some information that will make the school start up process clear.
Please note that student schedules will be distribute in TA on September 4th. Our team will continue to balance classes through September. The course change request process will be communicated to students during the first week of school.

Student Fees/Locker Distribution
We encourage you to pay student fees on the parent portal as soon as possible. Our student fees are as follows:
Student Fees: $28.00
Lock (optional): $6.00
Yearbook (optional; paid separately from student fees): $55.00
Starting on August 27th, Mrs. Gloslee, our new accounts clerk, will also be available in the office if you wish to pay fees in person. Please note we can only accept cash or cheque in the office. Credit card payments can only be done via the parent portal.
We will have an early locker distribution opportunity for students on Thursday August 30th. Students who come in on this day will get first choice on lockers within the bank assigned to their TA. To receive a locker students must:
- have paid student fees for the current and prior year (paying via the portal will mean the process goes faster. Mrs. Gloslee will also be taking cash and cheque payments at the school from August 27 onward)
- have resolved any outstanding learning resource invoices; this means resources must be returned or paid for. We currently have over $15,000 worth of learning resources that were signed out last year and not returned.
Early locker distribution will happen according to the following schedule (students should arrive to locker distribution day with a print out of the receipt to speed the process up). We will only be doing early distribution on August 30th, 2018:
Thursday August 30th
Grade 12’s 8:00-9:15
Grade 11’s 9:15-10:30
Grade 10’s 10:30-11:45
Grade 9’s 12:15-1:30
Grade 8’s 1:00-3:00
PLEASE NOTE: SENIOR STUDENTS WISHING TO SECURE A TOP LOCKER MUST ARRIVE DURING THEIR ASSIGNED TIME. IF UNABLE TO ATTEND DURING THE SCHEDULED TIME, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SEND A FRIEND TO CLAIM FOR YOU. YOUR FRIEND SHOULD ARRIVE WITH YOUR TA NUMBER AND A RECEIPT SHOWING THAT STUDENT FEES ARE PAID. AGAIN, LEARNING RESOURCES MUST BE TAKEN CARE OF TO CLAIM YOUR LOCKER.
Opening Week Schedule
Our goal for opening week is to have students spend meaningful time relationship-building with Teacher Advisors as well as ensuring students see each of their set block teachers by running a full week’s rotation via shorter class times. TA Attendance
Please note that unless a student has an administration approved work at home form, attendance during TA is required. TA starts at 8:30 and it is our expectation that students arrive on time. All students are required to maintain a daily plan using our paper planner. This will be signed each morning by Teacher Advisors. Students who consistently miss TA may be required to make up time by administration.
All student absences must be excused by a parent or legal guardian or they will be recorded as “unexcused,” and parents will be contacted by the autodialer. Absences reported to teachers may not be excused in our system, so be sure to contact with office in one of the following ways:
- Log into the parent portal and click the “Report Absence” tab. Select your child’s name from the drop-down menu. Enter the date of her/her absence or late, as well as any other relevant details. **This is the preferred method to report an absence**
- Call the school directly at 604-463-2001 and press 2.
- Send a signed note with your student to the office prior to, or upon return from, an absence.
- Visit the office in person
Work At Home
Work at home applications will be available from the office for students in grades 11 and 12 during the third week of school. These applications are to be filled out and returned to administration for consideration. Only students that demonstrated consistent work habits and achievement across all 3 report cards last year will be considered.
Grade 12 Parent/Student Evening
We will have our first grad meeting of the year on Tuesday September 25th at 7 pm in the Rotunda. We will cover all of the relevant information you need to ensure a successful grade 12 experience!
Parent Advisory Council
Our first PAC meeting will be held on Tuesday September 11th. As well, our District Parent Advisory Council is sponsoring a presentation on social media by Jessie Miller on Tuesday October 18th, at 7 pm. This will be a great evening and the information Jessie shares will be very useful if you have a teenager on social media.
Sincerely,
Grant Frend
