Westview takes Fraser North title – a first for the Maple Ridge AA boys soccer team (Nov. 2021)
- Westview Secondary senior boys AA soccer team has much to be proud of, says the coach. For the first time in the team’s history they took the Fraser North Championships and then they came fourth in the B.C. School Sports Boys AA Coastal Soccer Championships that took place Monday, Nov. 22, and Tuesday, Nov. 23 in Burnaby. (Full Article)
Westview students turn old tires into pet beds (Apr. 2021)
- Westview secondary art students and a Ridge Meadows Mountie have been creating beds for shelter animals by recycling tires. Parminder Cruikshank, visual arts teacher at Westview, said she was pitched the project for her classes by school police liaison officer Const. Britteny George. The students recently painted 40 tires that are now bound for Endless Pawsabilities Rescue Society in Vancouver and the BC SPCA Chilliwack Branch and further distribution to animal shelters in need. - Despite the cancellation of official high school sports this year, student-athletes in the Westview Basketball Academy have ‘pivoted’ and continue to train and work together, despite the challenges of the global pandemic. (Full Article)
Westview students painting pet portraits for animal rescue (Nov. 2020)
- A group of Maple Ridge students with a passion for animals are raising money to help conservation efforts around the world by painting pet portraits and selling animal-themed Christmas cards. (Full Article)
Maple Ridge cycling enthusiast giving the gift of riding to others (Nov. 2020)
- Matthew Goncalves, 17, has fixed up 16 used bikes to donate to the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Christmas Hamper Society. The Grade 12 Westview Secondary student put out the call for donations of used bikes on Oct. 29. Since then he has rounded up 60 bicycles –donations of all sizes. He has received adult mountain bikes, road bikes, children’s bikes and everything in between. He even received a trailer bike, a half-bike that attaches to an adult bike. (Full Article)
Citizens of the year for Maple Ridge named (Oct. 2020)
- Emily Barker-Voisine wins Youth Award. At Westview Secondary, she volunteered for the school district’s annual Indigenous Ignite Youth camps. She was a Link Crew Leader and also volunteered for non-profit organizations including the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Ridge Meadows Hospital through the VolunTEEN Program and Residential Care Recreation Volunteerism. Maple Ridge exchange student playing pro basketball in Germany (July 2020)
- Mats Linden spent a year training with the Westview Basketball Academy. Mats Linden came from a small German town to spend a year training with the Westview Basketball Academy last year. The exchange student hoped to improve both his basketball skills, and his English language skills in a nurturing environment in his year away from home. School District 42’s basketball academy at Westview did not disappoint. “I met teammates who will be my brothers for life,” Linden said. His father, Markus, added, “We will welcome these boys to Germany any time. They have been Mats’ family this year.”

Maple Ridge grad earns Aboriginal Achievement Award (June 2020)
- It’s all about making students feel included, happy and, most of all, connected with their culture. That is why Emily Barker-Voisine loves to be a mentor to indigenous youth. And now the Grade 12 Westview secondary student has been recognized for her work with the Si:yam Cultural Leadership Award, which she received at the recent 12th annual Aboriginal Achievement Awards. Westview plays in host tournament championship (Dec. 2019)
- The Westview Wildcats played in the final game of their host tournament on Saturday, but lost the championship to High Road Academy by a score of 65-32. The Chilliwack team is ranked second in the province at the Single A level, and handed Westview their first loss of the season. Westview made it to the final with wins over local rivals Garibaldi and 56-47 R.E. Mountain of Langley. (Full Article)
