I hope you all have a wonderful summer. We look forward to the start of another new school year at Westview! Here is some important information to start the 2026-2027 school year.
Westview Summer Office Hours
The office is now closed and will reopen on August 31st from 8:00am – 3:00pm and effective Sept 8, 8:00am – 3:30pm.
Student Timetables
Our timetable is still being finalized. Therefore, student timetables will be available in MyEdBC for viewing Friday, September 4. All students will be provided with a copy of their timetable as they arrive at school the first week back. We recommend that students take a photo of their schedule as we no longer have the ‘My School Day’ app.

We have had a change to our Admin team. We would like to wish one of our Counsellors, Lauren O’Leary an exciting adventure for a year in New Zealand and our front desk receptionist, Nicole Connolly all the best in her new position for the year with the Safe and Caring schools food program, both will return next school year.
We would like to say good-bye to our current Principal, Cathryn Blanco and wish her all the best at PMSS and last but not least, we are welcoming Ken Elphick for his first school year with us! The Admin team is as follows.

Grade 8s
New student Orientation – Open House
The Westview Counselors will be holding a New Student Orientation on September 3 from 10am – 11am. This is open to all students who are new to our catchment area. Please note this is NOT for the ‘incoming’ catchment grade 7s or new international students as they have their own separate events taking place. We will provide a school tour and a rundown of how our timetable works while welcoming you to our great school!
Grade 8 Orientation – Open House
On Thursday, September 3 from 12pm – 2pm we are hosting the Grade 8 Orientation Day Open House.
We are so excited to be welcoming our new cohort of Grade 8s to Westview! Grade 8s are welcome to drop by during this time to get a treat and have a look around the school to familiarize themselves before Sept 8. We will have student leaders on hand to give tours and answer questions. Parents and caregivers are welcome as well.

Grade 8 Program – OPTIONS
Westview offers several optional programs available to students starting in Grade 8. These include:

Opening Day – Tuesday, September 8, 2026
Please note on the first day, not all students attend at the same time. Take a look at the schedule and determine by grade the time you need to arrive. Student Advisory’s will be provided in our Main Entrance upon student arrival.
Students will then proceed as follows below. In their advisory, teachers will review a number of important documents with students such as, how to pay student fees, sign out a locker, who to contact, how to communicate with their teachers, the digital policies, Health and Safety guidelines and plan for the opening week.
Grade 8s
- 9:45am – 10:45am (then dismissed for the day) – go to Advisory
Grade 9-12s
- 10:45 – 11:45am (then dismissed for the day) – go straight to Advisory
International Students
- 1:00pm – 3:00pm – International Student Orientation in MPR
Week 1 Schedule – Wednesday, September 9th – Friday, September 11th
- All students will be in school for full days from 8:30am until 2:45pm
- Regular lunch service from our cafeteria will not be provided until Monday, September 14th.

If anything changes, we will send out further information regarding details about our first two weeks back in September around the end of August. For now, our tentative schedule for September 9-11 is as follows:
If your child is in Grade 9-10 and wants to change classes, they will need to make an appointment with their counselor. The new counselor will be confirmed in August who deals with 9s, 11s and 12s (A-L) and Mrs. Sharpe deals with grades 8s, 10s and 12s (M-Z).

School Info
Class/Schedule Changes
Students will receive a paper copy of their schedule in their Advisory the first week of September. For students who want to make a change to their schedule, Course Correction Forms will be available for pick up and drop off in the main office.
- All Course Correction Requests will be made online, by students scanning a QR code and entering their requests via the online form
- Please note that submitting a Course Correction Request does not guarantee that we will be able to accommodate your request.
- It is essential that students follow their current schedules, even while waiting for changes to be made. Counsellors and Admin will be looking for you according to your current schedule, and if you are not present in class, they will move on to the next student’s course request change form.
- Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the counsellors by email.
Student Fee Payment & Lockers (2026-27)
All students in SD42 are required to pay a $35 Student Fee. This fee may be paid on the Parent Portal or students can pay student fees by cheque or cash in the main office at school during the first week of school. Yearbooks are OPTIONAL ($65) and may be paid on-line through the parent portal or at the main office with cash or cheque. There will be two portal notification emails with instructions for portal payments.

Lockers – will be assigned at Advisory during between September 8-11th, 2026.

A Note About E-Bikes at Westview Secondary
E-bikes are becoming a very popular way for students to get around, and we want to make sure our community understands both the laws in British Columbia and our expectations at Westview. Our goal is always to keep students safe and supported.
What the Law Says
- Students must be at least 14 years old to ride a light e-bike (pedal-assist only, up to 250W, maximum 25 km/h).
- Students must be at least 16 years old to ride a standard e-bike (up to 500W, maximum 32 km/h, throttle permitted).
- Riders younger than these ages are not legally permitted to operate an e-bike.

What This Means at Westview
- If your child meets the age requirements and chooses to ride an e-bike to school, they will need to walk their bike on and off school property to help keep everyone safe.
- Students should bring their own lock to secure their e-bike in the racks provided.
- If a student rides an e-bike to school but does not meet the age requirements, we will kindly ask parents/guardians to come and take the bike home.
We appreciate your partnership as we guide students to make safe and responsible choices. Thank you for helping us create a caring environment where all of our learners can get to and from school safely.
Electronic Devices and Technology Policy
Consequences for not following the expectations noted above are:
- 1st Breach – Parent/caregiver contact made. Phones will be held in the office until end of the day
- 2nd Breach – Parent/caregiver contact made. Phones will be held in the office until end of the day
- 3rd Breach- Parent/caregiver contacted and student is expected to keep phone left at home for 5 school days
