The Peak Performance Pod is a class for grade 8 students who are heavily involved in athletics/fitness or performance arts wanting to increase their health and conditioning. The Peak Performance Pod is based on a specialized curriculum designed to guide student athletes to an increased level of performance that matches their personal goals. Students train to become “complete” athletes: they increase strength, speed, power, agility, anaerobic capacity, aerobic capacity, mobility, balance and coordination, mental resiliency, and flexibility. Our program is based on the development of the whole student athlete and to make sport accessible to everyone. In addition to developing fitness and mindfulness, Peak students learn the importance of giving back to society. Upon completing grade 8, some of our Peak students go on to become student leaders in the school and community. As peer mentors they take the skills and knowledge that they have developed through Peak and use them to help encourage a passion for fitness, sport, and an active lifestyle. The Peak Performance Pod encourages our athletes to maintain their fitness as they grow older and phase out of their preferred sports as adults. When an individual has only played a certain sport throughout their youth, they will eventually come to a point in life where the opportunity to join those teams is no longer an option. It’s great to think that they will already be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to fall into a fitness routine that they have already been exposed to through our program. The ultimate goal is for all of our students to continue maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle as they grow up.
