Today is Y Day – all grade 8 students follow their regularly scheduled classes.

Thursday/Friday: No school

Extra help available for Math 10 students:
Tuesdays during 1st block and Thursdays during 2nd block in room 1149 with Ms. Bidwell. Math help will be offered every Tuesday/Thursday until April. The focus will be on learning guides 9 & 10, but help for other learning guides is also available

THSS Clothing
THSS Clothing is now available. Samples will be available to try on every Monday and Thursday at lunch, outside the rotunda by the girls change rooms. There are t-shirts, long sleeves, hoodies, crewnecks and sweatpants. All orders must be handed into Mrs. Clayton or Mrs. Coghill by February 25th. Order forms can be found on the board next to the intramural board.

THSS Grad Hoodies
This is the second, and last, 2016 grad hoodie order. Samples will be available outside the rotunda by the girls change room every Monday and Thursday at lunch. Order forms can be found on the board next to the intramural board. All orders must be handed into Mrs. Clayton or Mrs. Coghill by February 25th. A minimum of 12 must be ordered for the order to go through.

Youth Week Talent Show Auditions!
Youth Week is a provincial celebration of youth held annually in the first week of May. Students are invited to join in on the fun through at talent show held at the ACT Arts Centre on May 2.
Audition Dates: Thursday, March 24 or 31
Audition Times: 6:00 – 9:00 pm
Location: South Bonson Community Centre

FREE!! Yes- you heard it: FREE! To kick off their new Maple Ridge location, renowned Vancouver film and Television acting school Tarlington Training is offering a FREE “Auditioning for Camera” two hour workshop on Feb. 25 from 4:30 -6:30. Advance registration is required and space is rapidly filling. Open to EVERYONE aged 8-18. If you were intrigued by the film crew in the school and want to know how to nail an on camera audition- two free hours with Perter Grasso is a fantastic way to get a sense of how it all works. Skiers and boarders:
Our final trip to Whistler is quickly approaching. If you are interested in coming to Whistler on February 27th to ski or board, please see Mr. Williams or Ms. Fischer to get a permission form
Order your THSS yearbook by the middle of February. Yearbooks are $55.00 and can be personalized at no extra charge

Thomas Haney Equestrian Academy 2016-17 applications are now being accepted. If you are a grade 9 student entering grade 10, and horses and riding define who you are, apply online. The online application is on the THSS school website. Information is also available at the Academy website at http://sevan8.wix.com/thequestrian-academy

Earth Day Maple Ridge needs volunteers on Saturday, April 23. If you need volunteer hours or simply want to be involved, please come to the Career Centre for an application form.

Partnership Programs are now taking applications for next year: plumbing, hairdressing, carpentry, electrical, automotive, culinary, and metal fabrication. See us in the Career Centre.

Course Selection Assemblies will happen on the following dates during Y block:
Grade 10: February 22nd
Grade 11: February 29th
Counselors will visit English classrooms the week following each grade assembly to complete the course selection process. We hope to send course verifications home in the middle of May.

If you’re late arriving to school, please remember to sign in at the office. We need to know who’s in the building in case of emergency

Grade 12’s who would like to have a chance at being Thomas Haney Secondary’s nominee for the $5,000 BC Excellence Award, must visit the Ministry of Ed website to confirm they meet criteria at:

2016 Grads! Your Graduation fees are now available to be paid on the parent portal. Please pay these fees ASAP –
Cap & Gown $50 (mandatory fee if you are participating in the grad ceremony)
Dinner Dance at Meadow Gardens $60 per ticket (pay for two tickets if bringing a guest)
Dry Grad at Thomas Haney $30 per ticket (pay for two tickets if bringing a guest)
If you are unable to pay them on the portal – you can bring payment (either cheque payable to THSS or cash) to Mrs. Shamro in the office.
