All student leaders in grades 8-12: you are invited to join the District Student Advisory Council (DSAC). DSAC students help create leadership opportunities for elementary students and participate in a variety of leadership activities in schools and the community.  Students interested in joining are invited to attend an information meeting: Wednesday October 5th from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM here at Thomas Haney in room 2032

Attention Speakers: Anyone interested in helping out with the morning announcements, please sign up on the sheet outside the office for an interview. You could be the next voice! Do you have what it takes?

Video Game Club: Praise be to Gaben! The first meeting of the Video Game club starts after school on Mondays in the Tech Lab. Come on down for some major pwnage!

LANGUAGE CHALLENGE EXAMS:  Students in grades 10,11 or 12 who are fluent in both reading and writing in French, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Punjabi or Spanish can apply to take a Language Challenge exam in Delta in January for course completion. The exam is a one day, six hour exam.  Students who are interested can pick up the Challenge package instructions from one of the counsellors. All applications must be returned to the counsellors by October 28.

Wifi Probz?  There is a WiFi Clinic in the Rotunda on Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30

Career Program @ BCIT: to help ensure that students who plan to attend our career program are focused on Broadcasting as a possible future career choice, career prep applicants are requested to attend one of the monthly information sessions prior to being scheduled for one of our available slots. Information session dates are listed online on the BCIT website under the “business and media” heading: http://www.bcit.ca/infosessisons/ phone: 604-451-6735. The session starts at 5:30 PM and will last approximately 60 minutes. Parents are welcome to attend.

The Research Community at BC Children’s Hospital is pleased to present Mini Med School 2016 – Genetic Counselling Curriculum – This series will provide insight into the world of genetic counselling. Learn how genetic counsellors are helping to lead the integration of genetics into patient care across all specialties of medicine. Mini Med School 2016 will be held Wednesday, October 19 to Wednesday, November 23 (6 sessions), 7:00 – 9:00pm at BC Children’s Hospital (938 West 28th Avenue, Vancouver, BC). Nomination Forms are now available online for high school students in grades 10-12 interested in attending. Each school can nominate a maximum of 2 students to attend. If you require additional time to identify nominees, contact minimed@cfri.ca to reserve space. We have 2 spots saved for our school, students interested please see Mrs. Sekhon in the counselling office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information regarding these events/opportunities, visit counselling office.

RCMP in BC YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Students aged 14-18, have something to say about issues facing young people? Apply by emailing for an application by October 31 Email: yacbc@rcmp-grc.gc.ca or phone 778-290-4005 ask for Vijay Morancie RCMP in BC, Crime Prevention Services.

All Aboriginal students and parents are invited to the 8th Annual Aboriginal Career Fair next Wednesday, October 5  from 6 – 8 pm at Maple Ridge Senior Secondary.  Post secondary institutions and organizations will be present to talk in classrooms and individually later in the cafeteria.
