Bravo les filles! Congratulations go out to Sadie Sugden-Harvey and Marlowe Evans for their excellent presentations this past weekend at the Provincial French Public Speaking competitions!  Our THSS students represented Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District in fine fashion.  Once again Thomas Haney Secondary students have shown their commitment to excellence.  Well done ladies!  Be very proud!

Dance Tickets: The school dance is at 7:00 pm on May 7th. You can buy tickets for $5.00 in the rotunda at lunch.  All grades welcome!

Interested in visiting volcanoes, seeing exotic animals and rafting tropical rivers? If you’re in grade 10 or 11, come to room 2010 Wednesday, May 6th at lunch and find out about the trip to Costa Rica Spring Break 2016.

Yearbooks: if you haven’t already ordered a yearbook, it’s not too late. Bring your $50.00 to Mrs. Shamro in the office. Quantities are limited so don’t delay!

 

Grade 8 Badminton: – Sign-up sheets are now posted.  It is a grade 8 only doubles badminton tournament.  Only sign up if you intend to show up. Sheets will be taken down Monday, May 11.

 

 

Scholarships:  If you have received a scholarship, please come up to the school office and see Mrs. Gilbert with your letter of confirmation from the issuing institute. We want to recognize and congratulate you at the Grad Ceremony!

Grads!  If you are planning on participating in the Grad dinner/dance you will need to have your fees paid FIRST in order to sign up for a table!  We will do sign-ups for tables (10 per table) after the May long weekend!!  Don’t miss out on your choice of table and location!

 

WORK EXPERIENCE AND POST-SECONDARY INFORMATION:

  • Douglas College is hosting a New Student Orientation session. Learn how to select and register for courses and find out more about Financial Aid. Held on May 4 and 5th at the New West Campus from 5:00 – 8:45 p.m. and at the Coquitlam Campus on May 6 and 7th from 5:00 to 8:45 p.m. Spots are limited.   • Kwantlen Polytechnic University will be visiting THSS on Wednesday, May 20th in the conference room inside the Counselling area at 9:00am. Important information such as course selection and registration and important dates and deadlines will be discussed.
  • Soldier For A Day: your local Army Reserves is hosting a work study program on May 24 from 10:00am – 3:00 pm.  This event gives students a chance to meet and speak with local reserve soldiers to see if this is possible career path for them. To apply please see Mr. Wiens or Mrs. Domitruk. Space is limited so apply early!

  • 2015 Lupus Canada Scholarship Program  – 5 at $2,000.  Diagnosed with Lupus by a physician.  A student who demonstrates academic success and ambition.   • LM Scholarship Program – $500 Criteria: Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and answer essay question.

  • The MADD Canada Bursary Fund is for Canadian students who have had an immediate family member (mother, father, legal guardian, or sibling) killed in an impaired-driving related crash and are pursuing any full time education program that is approved by a provincial Ministry of Education. Bursaries of up to $2,000 can be awarded to qualifying students across Canada.   • Adam Kutner Scholarship Program – $2,500.  Must have a GPA of at least 3.0, have a need for funds and show interest in an aspect of law.
