Ski & Snowboard Trip @ Cypress

January 19, 2027 @ 12:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Cypress Mountain Ski & Snowboard Trip

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary Applied Outdoor Education Program is offering students the opportunity to participate in self guided ski and snowboard trips to Cypress Mountain during the winter season.

*Parents must read this entire waiver for important info.

These trips are intended for students who already have skiing or snowboarding experience and are comfortable participating independently and safely on the mountain while following all school, chaperone, and Cypress Mountain rules. There is a maximum space for up to 16 students.

Students wanting to participate must have good standing in both Environmental Science 11/12 and Outdoor Education 11/12. This means all assignments and projects handed in time, as well as respectful in class and during all excursions. If in doubt, please check with teacher whether these trips would be suited for your child.

Ms. Sarah Davies and Mr. Carlo Pennacerada will determine what alternate activity will be available for non-participating students.

Staff and teacher chaperones for this trip will be: Ms. Tracy Adams (ski and snowboard club coordinator), Mr. Harry Dhillon (previous district superintendent), and one other teacher or volunteer (TBD).

* Please note: the date of January 19th, as listed on this form, may or may not be the actual date of trip.

Exact trip dates will not be selected until the ski season begins. We will monitor snow conditions and choose dates that provide the best opportunity for safe and enjoyable mountain conditions.

Once dates have been confirmed, an email will be sent to parents/guardians with the specific trip dates and any additional information.

SKI/SNOWBOARD EXPERIENCE

These are not beginner ski or snowboard trips. Students attending must have previous skiing or snowboarding experience and be capable of safely navigating the mountain without one-on-one instruction.

Students are expected to:

  • Have sufficient skiing/snowboarding experience to participate safely.
  • Follow all Cypress Mountain rules and posted signs.
  • Follow the directions of school staff and chaperones.
  • Remain respectful and responsible while on school transportation and at the mountain.
  • Use appropriate safety equipment.
  • Conduct themselves in a manner that represents Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary appropriately.

CYPRESS MOUNTAIN PASS REQUIREMENT

Each participating student is responsible for purchasing their own minimum 3-day Youth Pass through Cypress Mountain.

See info on website:

http://https//www.cypressmountain.com/downhill-sky-card/details?variant=10661

Select: SKYCARD

Youth age 13-17

The Limited Pass will work for school trips. But you may also purchase an Unlimited Pass or select 4 day or 5 day (which provides better savings and includes a bonus evening). This way, your child can attend a few times outside of school. Seasons pass is also available.

If students do not own their own gear, they have an option to purchase rentals on Cypress website under Skycard purchase.

The school will not purchase the ski/snowboard pass on behalf of students.

The minimum 3-day pass requirement is intended to allow students to use the pass for school trips. If they choose to purchase more days (4 or 5 day passes include a bonus evening) or a seasons pass, they may use the extra days for personal skiing/snowboarding outside of school time.

Any unused days may be used by the student outside of school time. No refunds will be given for unused dates.

School based refunds for transportation will be issued if another student is available to fill the cancelled spot.

Please note: If snow conditions are not conducive this season and not all dates can be filled, there will be no refunds for Cypress passes issued by school. Last years conditions were questionable, and we did the best we could to attend all trips, but cancellations due to conditions are subject to occur. Weather is out of our control. The aim is to ski once a month from January – March.

Parents/guardians and students are responsible for ensuring that the required pass is purchased prior to participating in a trip.

SCHOOL TRIP FEE

There will be a $30 fee for each trip attended.

This fee covers:

  • Transportation to and from Cypress Mountain
  • A simple dinner

The $30 trip fee does not include the cost of the Cypress Mountain ski/snowboard pass, equipment rentals or personal expenses.

Priority is being given to AOEP students. Students from outside of the AOEP will be invited to join after 2 weeks of waiver being on portal.
