Grad Hoodies: There was a second THSS Grad Hoodie order and there is one large and two extra large left available to purchase. The cost is $35, and it is first come, first served. Please see Coghill or Clayton if you are interested.
Information for Grads:
If you have not yet paid your cap and gown fees, the deadline is February 28. If you’re not sure whether your fees have been paid, see Mrs. Shamro in the office or send her an email: Sandra_Shamro@sd42.ca Grad Transitions 12: At this point, your Grad Transitions assignments should be complete. Be sure to turn in any missing forms (exit interview, etc.) to your teacher ASAP. If your course is not done, you should be attending your fixed block every Friday. Grade 12 students: Be sure that you’ve completed your PSI online form if you are planning to apply to a post-secondary institution. An early offer of admission does NOT mean that you can skip this step as this is how post-secondary institutions confirm that you have graduated at the end of the year. Remember: it is your responsibility to ensure that your transcripts are sent to post-secondary institutions by their deadlines. Read letters and e-mails from PSIs carefully to ensure you don’t miss a step! Scholarship Information: -The BC Government and Service Employees’ Union BCGEU is please to once again offer scholarships for post-secondary studies undertaken by BCGEU members, staff and their families. For details check www.bcgeu.ca/union education Applications must be submitted online by midnight on Sunday, March 12, 2017 -Save-On-Foods has partnered with UFCW Local 1518 to offer up to ten scholarships valued at $1,000 each to individuals who have played a significant role in diversity initiatives in their school and/or community. The online application for this scholarship is available on our Diversity Scholarship page at www.owfq.com/diversity. Applications must be received by May 1, 2017. See Mrs. Sekhon in the career center for more info. -Schulich Leader Scholarships are prestigious entrance scholarships awarded to high school graduates enrolling in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics at 20 Canadian partner universities. Interested students need to write a 300 word essay demonstrating their leadership skills to get nominated. The deadline is January 25. For more info come see Mr. Von Matt, Ms. Matthews or Mrs. Sekhon in the Career Centre. –BC Excellence scholarships need to write an essay of 300 words explaining their leadership talents by Feb 1 to get nominated. Applications must reach to the ministry office by Feb 15. Scholarship information sessions: Jan 24 location TBA. -The Cmolik Foundation scholarships to deserving BC students is also available. Intramurals:
1) Grade 9 and 10 Badminton tournament (pools and schedule) have now been posted. The tournament will start Wednesday, January 25. If you signed up you need to be in the gym at 12:05 on this day for a brief meeting prior to playing.
2) The soccer sign-up sheets are posted. They will be taken down on Thursday, Jan 26 at the end of the day. Sign up with a partner or by yourself. First and last names please.

Whistler Ski and Board Club: Have you seen the snow in the mountains??? Interested in coming to ski or board at Whistler? THSS ski and board club has two trips planned: February 4th and March 4th to Whistler. Come get more information and a permission form from Ms. Fischer or Mr. Williams. All levels welcome!

Library News
- The Battle of The Books is coming! Read six amazing novels! Participate in book clubs with other THSS students! Gain glory and fame as we crush competitors from five other schools! For more details, see Mrs. Fulgueras in the library or visit thsslibrary.wordpress.com! All of the books are available so come down and get a head start with your reading! Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, January 24th at lunch in the library. Bring your lunch and we’ll talk about what the Battle entails.
- Interested in coding/robotics using Lego Mindstorms, Spheros, MaKey MaKey, Little Bits, and more? Come to the library every Wednesday and Thursday after lunch to try them out! If you have a phone or tablet you can use to download apps, bring it along.
- The library will be closed for Grade 8 explorations groups during blocks A and H on the following dates: January 19, January 20, and January 23. Please plan to work elsewhere during those times. Thanks!
