December 10, 2013

Dec 11 2013

On the seventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me

Seven swans a swimming, six geese a laying,

five golden rings!

Four calling birds, three french hens,

two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

English 10-12 Seminar:  TODAY, 1st block, room 1122 – “Christmas Music and Poetry Terms – A Holiday Pair”.

French 10 (Wednesdays) with Mme Preddy: Do not forget about your Belgian/French food festival TODAY – Wednesday (Dec. 11) during our set class. Bring your prepared recipe, the name of it and the ingredients listed. No Nuts please!

Mrs McGrath will be holding General Scholarship Information Sessions in the Career Centre Dec 11 & 12 at lunch. Same info will be covered each time, so Grade 12’s only need to attend one session. Bring pen and paper.

PE Student Aides / Intramural Student Aides – There will be a Christmas pizza lunch in the Suddaby Room on Friday, Dec 20.  There is a signup sheet on the board next to the intramural board.  PE department will need to know numbers, so please sign up only if you can make it. Sheet will be taken down at the end of the day on Tuesday, Dec 17.

Attention Random Acts of Kindness Club Members: Our meeting next week has been changed from Tuesday to Monday. Remember to bring your Secret Santa gift for the gift exchange!

HEY EVERYONE: Make sure to come down to the rotunda during lunch this week to take the kindness pledge and help make the Grinch’s heart grow! Just tell a RAK Club member what random act of kindness you will do, and they’ll give you a cookie!

Intramural Champions – GUITAR HERO

Grade 8 – Jaden Dyer

Grade 9 – Colton Brown

Grade 10 – No one

Grade 11 – Zach Stuive

Grade 12 – Trevor Logie

Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey On-Ice Mentor Program for Grade 8’s – 12’s – Hockey players! Take advantage of this Work Experience opportunity, leading young players aged 5 – 7. Looks great on a resume as Work or Volunteer experience. More info in the Career Centre.

The FSO will meet at lunch this Thursday in room 1132.  New members are always welcome.  We want to start planning our next event!  See you there J

Lost and Found Clothing/Items

Please check the lost and found for your lost items!  We will be donating the unclaimed items to the Eco-Action clothing drive on Friday, December 20th in the morning.  The bin is located in the hallway outside the office by the Grad pictures.

Would the following girls please return their volleyball jerseys to Mrs. Clayton at her PE office this week:  Taylor Grostad, Danika Morovic, Jessica Vanderwal, Erika Hansen and Christina Johnstone

A Christmas Tradition! – The Social Studies Dept. will be once again showing a World War II inspired film.  “Life is Beautiful” will be in the Suddaby Room (2032) on Friday, Dec. 13th, blocks 1-3.  All students welcome!

THSS Ski/Board Club – LAST CHANCE!!!  It’s less than 2 weeks until our first after school trip to Cypress Bowl.  If you are interested in joining there is still space available and all grades are welcome.  See Mr. Williams or Ms. Fischer this week for info on Cypress or our 3 trips to Whistler.

Visit the eco action table in the rotunda at lunch Friday and check out our amazing buttons!  $1 each!  A great gift for friends and family.

ANOTHER Green Christmas Tip:   Instead of buying “stuff” why not give the gift of time, an experience or a donation?  Make a coupon book, buy tickets to an event or buy a gift of hope – like an animal or well for a charity that aids other countries.  Your gift will warm someone’s heart but not the planet!

THSS Food Drive Contest – THSS IS LOSING THE FOOD DRIVE COMPETITION BADLY!!  If everyone in this school brings in just ONE can of food, we would have more than 1000 cans in no time!

The Haiku Death Match is Coming!  Thursday, December 19th (4th / 5th blocks in the English Great Hall)  Can you Haiku?  Want to compete for glory, honour, and fame?  Sign up in the English Great Hall.  See Ms. Ferguson for more details.

DSAC will be holding a fundraiser for Coins For Kids all next week!  In the rotunda at lunch come and donate money to the teacher you most want to see wear a princess fairy costume.  The teachers include:  Mr. Liversidge, Mr. Biggar and Mr. Connolly, so come out and support the kids and see one teacher dress up.
