Immersion Française

Immersion Française

Bienvenue à PMSS!

We have a distinct community of bilingual learning at Pitt Meadows Secondary. Our program is known for its close-knit ties between students and our community. Throughout the year, we strive to provide authentic opportunities to interact in French. We offer experiences within the school, as well as French field trips to local venues and francophone events.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact your student’s teacher.

PMSS Immersion Program at a Glance:

Students in this program will take three French Immersion courses in Grade 8 and four in Grades 9 and 10.  Students will take two French Immersion courses in Grades 11 and 12.

We are proud to offer our locally developed Vie courante 9, where students learn about Francophone culture and cuisine though cooking and drama.

How to Support your Student in French Immersion:

Please see the attached slide deck for more information and tips.  SupportingYourStudentInFI

DELF Certification:

We are the first school in our community to offer the DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue français) and we are excited to validate our student competencies on an international basis.

Online French Contests:

We encourage our students to participate in national French contests such as:

  • The Immersion Clip contest
  • The Lance ton balado contest
  • The National Essay contest

French Resources and Experiences:

  • French for the Future is a not-for-profit organization that supports and motivates high school students on their path towards bilingualism. There are multiple cultural experiences listed on their website.
  • Canadian Parents for French is a nationwide, research-informed, volunteer organization that furthers bilingualism by promoting opportunities to learn and use French for all those who call Canada home.

French Language Exchanges/ Trips:

We offer an exchange to Québec City to our Grade 8 French Immersion students as well as a trip to France to Grade 11 and 12 students (dependent on student interest).  Additionally, please visit englishfrench.ca for additional exchange opportunities for your student.

Opportunities for Higher Education in French:

UBC, SFU and UFV have French studies options. Follow the links for more information.
