The International Baccalaureate Program (IB) Diploma Programme at Garibaldi Secondary School offers interested students a rigorous academic curriculum and a smooth transition into university.
Available in only 14 high schools across BC, the program is opened to students in the Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District as well as students from neighbouring districts.
Garibaldi Secondary School is a candidate school* for the MYP. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education - that we believe is important for our students.
* Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee
that authorization will be granted.
For further information about the IB and its programmes visit http://www.ibo.org
Grade 11 and Grade 12 students interested in the IB program have the following two options:
- They may take one or more individual courses as Certificate courses
- They can take all their courses in IB for Grade 11 and 12 years, thus earning an International Baccalaureate Diploma.
Both certificate courses and the full diploma afford students the opportunity to receive advanced first-year credit at most universities in Canada and internationally for all HL courses.
For senior students, Garibaldi Secondary also offers partnerships with Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) and British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Students can earn a Carpentry Level 1 Certficate or Plumbing Level 1 and 2 Certificates from KPU. BCIT offers students the Level 1 Electrician Certificate.
For students planning to study in the arts, Garibaldi is home of the Interdisciplinary Arts Academy. Music, theatre, dance, and visual arts are delivered in dedicated spaces - our dance room has installed barres, we have a fully equipped professional theatre with sound system, and music spaces for both instrumental and choir classes.
Our Facility:
Garibaldi Secondary School received an extensive renovation as well as an addition between 2007 and 2009. We have state of the art technology infrastructure, a fantastic building, and beautiful school grounds.
