Welcome to Garibaldi Secondary school .
Here is a sample of information to support you in your transition to GSS.
A parent info evening was held May 2019. Here is the presentation:
Grade 8 Electives:
All students are programmed into two sets of elective rotations covering fine arts (Visual Art, Drama, Guitar, etc.. ) and applied skills (Woodwork, Computers, Careers, etc..). However, students can choose a full year fine art elective. The choices for a full year elective are: Dance, Drama, and Band.
To select one or more full year elective options, follow the link below to an electronic form. Please complete no later than June 24, 2019 :
Special Education Programming: Beginning in March teachers from GSS are in contact with each of the elementary schools to look to develop individual plan to support each student who receives additional academic supports. This ensures that IEP’s and other transition steps are taken as necessary.
GSS has 55 minutes a day a of dedicated time where student can choose to support their own learning. We call this FLEX time. Often this time can be used as “assigned support time”, allowing for student receiving “support” to remain in more of their elective classes. This is a change from past years.
SD 42 – Social Emotional Learning Committee resources.
School District 42 maintains a committee to support staff and student with their social emotional health. We recognize that the transition and change to high school can create stress. While we are active in support this transition with events and dedicated staffing, the committee has created additional resources to support students in this transition. Below is a handout from SRT – it is excellent:
