Student Led Conferences

This year’s Student Led Conferences are scheduled for November 5, 2024 and April 24, 2025.

NEW Format for 2024

Conferences are booked online in 15 minute blocks with your student’s classroom teachers. Teachers will be in classrooms, hosting several sets of parents / guardians and students in the same 15 minute interval. It is essential that students attend, as students will be leading the conferences. To support a positive conference, students should bring resources i.e. notebook or portfolio, to lead the conference.

If you are unable to book a time, some drop-ins can be accommodated. Student leadership will be available at the main entrance to book drop-in spots. Note that drop-in spots cannot be guaranteed. Some teachers may choose to stay with the traditional 5 minute rotation. For these teachers, drop-ins will not be available.

It is important that appointments are not booked back to back to allow for travel time between rooms. At the event, a detailed map and chart will outline each teachers location.

Please be sure to only book appointments with your student’s teachers.

Here is a supplemental letter to support your evening Nov 2024.

Nov 2024 SLC parent portal letter

The appointment booking system is a part of the Parent Portal, please be sure that you have access to the parent portal. If you do not have access to the Parent Portal please contact the school immediately to have this set up as it takes 24 hours before being active.

Sign-up for the conferences can now be done through the Parent Portal via these steps:

1) Log on to the Parent Portal at parents.sd42.ca

2) Select the Student Led Conferences Tab along the top

3) Select your student and click Show Calendar

4) On the left side select the date, by clicking on the date.

5) Your student’s teachers will be listed across the top. Scroll down to the desired time and click on that time slot. Click Yes to confirm that slot with that particular teacher.  You can scroll along the bottom to see all teachers.  Repeat this process for all of your child’s teachers you want to meet.

Students are expected to attend with their parent / guardian.

The portal (https://parents.sd42.ca/Parents/ParentLoginPage.aspx)  includes an instructional video.

Appointment booking will open one week before the event.

Tips for a successful Student Led Conference:
1. Prepare specific questions for each Teacher / Subject in advance; take notes.
2. Teachers will schedule 15-minute time limit for a group. This allows for all parents and students to meet with teachers within the allotted time frames. Allow for travel time by not booking back to back.
3. Should you require additional time, please arrange a mutually convenient time for you and the teacher to meet.
4. Ensure the teacher has your correct contact information such as email or preferred phone number.
5. Ask about teacher websites, MS Teams posting or additional contact plans.
6. Follow up with your child after the conference.
7. Teacher email addresses are listed on the school webpage.
