We are pleased to announce that the design of the new Pitt Meadows Secondary School (PMSS) is nearing completion and that testing and work on parts of the school site will be starting in early June.
Before construction begins, an archaeological investigation will be conducted on the site. This will involve digging test pits in select locations and screening the soil for any archaeological finds.
The contractor will begin bringing in trailers and equipment in early June, with main activities starting in July after classes end. Construction will be split into three phases:
- Phase 1 (early works) will run from June to November 2026. This phase will include excavation, utility services installation, tree cutting, and soil removal in preparation for the construction of the main school building. The pick-up and drop-off zone to the north of the existing school will be adjusted to allow safe access for vehicles during construction. Trees that will not be removed will have protective fencing installed.
- Phase 2 (main building construction) will begin in early 2027.
- Phase 3, the final phase, will cover demolition of the old building, landscaping, and construction of the new parking lot and turf field, with the project completing in 2030.
The attached map highlights the areas closed off during Phase 1 and 2 of the construction and shows an alternate pedestrian route from 116B Avenue to Pitt Meadows Athletic Park.
The safety of students, parents/guardians, teachers, and staff will be a top priority throughout construction. The construction team and school administration will stay in regular communication, and we will keep families and the wider community informed as work progresses.
For your information, an overview of construction-related activities from June to August 2026 is below:
- June 2, 2026: Closure of the north-east access road
- June 8, 2026, onward: Daily closure of approximately 20 parking stalls for the archeological test pits
- June 18, 2026: Modification of the north-east drop-off area
- June 26, 2026: Closure of the turf field and south-east stair access
- July 10, 2026: Closure of west access road
- August 21, 2026: New access pathway to Pitt Athletic Park will be created
