To our SRT Titan Community: In order to clarify for parents and students, here are some important things to note regarding marks for 2019-2020: 1. Not all teachers entered 3rd term marks--it was optional; however, all FINAL MARKS include some elements/work/efforts completed during 3rd term.  This mark is determined differently by teachers based on individual courses and expectations.  How one teacher assesses will likely differ from that of another. 2. Honour Roll/Top Titan will only look at FINAL MARKS and will not take into consideration Term 3 work habits whatsoever. 3. SG= Standing Granted--This is a mark given to students who were close to passing but not quite there.  It means that the student has earned the required credits for graduation and will be promoted to the next grade level.  Students who earned an SG are not required to go to summer school; although it may be beneficial. 4. The first point of contact for questions regarding marks is always the teacher, not the office.  If you have concerns regarding marks, please contact the teacher directly.  Obviously, the summer months may make that difficult as they are not required to be on call to check emails while away from school. 5. Be kind, be patient and remember that it is never the end of the world when it comes to marks, Top Titan or otherwise.  The social-emotional wellness of staff and students is our top priority; so please be sure that any emails sent to teachers or administration are constructive and professional. We hope that the entire Titan Community, from outgoing graduates to incoming grade 8s have a wonderful summer.  Stay safe, and see you in September! Sincerely, The SRT Administration Team

Code of Conduct for Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary

Student Code of Conduct: The Rights of all Titans

All of the expectations we have for our SRT community stem from the following “Rights:”

Everyone has the right to learn and teach.

Everyone has the right to feel safe.

Everyone has the right to make a positive contribution to the school.

Everyone has the right to decent treatment.

With that in mind, here is a review of our Code of Conduct and some key reminders for students and parents from that code of conduct:

  • Students are expected to attend ALL classes they are scheduled for, unless they are officially excused by a parent or for a school event.  Calls should be made to the office prior to 8:30 am if a student will be absent for the day.
  • Students are responsible for work missed during their absence, and should arrange with their teachers to make up that work as soon as possible.

  • Students need to be on time for class, meaning they are in their seats PRIOR to the bell.
  • Students who are continuously late should expect to receive consequences.  Being late wastes everyone’s opportunity for learning.
  • Students should go straight to class if they arrive within 30 minutes of the bell.  If they are more than 30 minutes late for class they should go sign in at the office.

Cell Phones and Devices

  • Individual teachers decide on the cell phone and device policy in their classrooms.
  • If a teacher requests a students’ phone, students must comply.  Teachers will return devices at their discretion, either at the end of class or the end of the day.
  • Students should not take photos or videos of anyone without permission, and should not circulate any photos or videos if they are not sure of whether that permission was originally obtained.

Signing in and Out

  • If a student is leaving the building for any reason, they must sign out at the office.
  • Students are required to supply a note from home, or phone call approval must be received prior to a student being signed out.
  • In case of an emergency and/or an evacuation it is extremely important for SRT to know the whereabouts of every student.

Behaviour Expectations

  • We expect a peaceful environment, with no violence; including but not limited to intimidation, harassment, fighting, bullying, assault and the use of weapons.
  • We expect no one in our building be in the possession of or distributing illegal substances (drugs/alcohol) on school property, or any school function (in any location).
  • We expect our students to respect the building, and have no vandalism or theft of school property, from classrooms to general areas, as well as the outdoor facilities.
  • Smoking/Vaping is not permitted on school property.  Students are required to be in the designated areas for either activity, and will face consequences if caught anywhere else.
  • Grade 8s are not permitted in the smoking area at any time. Grades 8 and 9 are not permitted to vape or smoke.
  • Out of bounds area: Albion Park and its trails are OFF LIMITS for all SRT students between 8:30 am- 2:40 pm.

 Field Trips

  • Students must obtain the proper forms and permissions to attend any field trips associated with SRT.
  • All field trips will be arranged via the Parent Portal.
  • Students are responsible for completing any work missed during their absence.
  • Student who are unable to follow school rules may be banned from field trips.

 Academic Honesty

  • Cheating and plagiarism are not tolerated, by any teacher, in any class.
  • Cheating on assignments and exams is taken very seriously.  This includes sending photos of exams to other students, possessing “cheat notes” in any form and communicating with any other student during an exam.
  • Plagiarism will be take as seriously as cheating.  Submitting or presenting any work of another person as your own is considered to be theft.  That includes written or oral work, images, video or audio.

 Dress Code

  • Clothing should not compromise the safety of any student-–it should be appropriate for the various activities of daily classes.
  • Clothing should not represent or promote alcohol, drugs or gang culture.
  • Clothing should use respectful language.

  • Flex is considered to be class time.
  • Used to study, catch-up on work, review or get extra help.
  • Teachers have the right to assign Flex time.
  • Students should not in hallways or leave the building.
  • Flex is a privilege not a right—don’t waste your time!
