Eleanor Collins, also known as Vancouver’s First Lady of Jazz, was born in Alberta and started winning talent contests when she was 15. She became a professional musician for the CBC when she was 26, was the first Canadian music artist to have a show named after her, and the first racialized musician to host a national television series in North America – both of these were ground breaking achievements in Canadian history!
