Congratulations to the Sr. Boys Basketball team on winning the Fraser North AAA Championship in thrilling games yesterday at Langley Events Centre! If ever a team started playing their best when it counted, it was our Senior Boys this weekend!
On Friday night the Boys played in the AAA Semi-Final against the province’s #1 ranked team, Byrne Creek in Bryne’s home gym. Widely regarded as the toughest gym in the province to play in, the Boys gave Byrne all they could and pulled off a stunning upset 75-74! Down 1 with under 15 seconds left, the Boys attacked Byrne’s defence: Liam Samson made an outstanding pass to Owen Fernandes who score the winning hoop with one second left! On to the finals…
The finals saw our Boys go up against St. Thomas More, the province’s 6th ranked team whose grade 11’s won Jr. Provincials last year. Our Ramblers got of to a hot start behind Vince Longuir’s shooting and had an early lead. Our offense sputtered through the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and we were down 10 heading into the 4th. Then we found our groove and used a 25 second run 7-0 to narrow the gap. Up 2 with 4 seconds left, Owen Fernandes stole the ball and scored an insurance lay-up as the final buzzer sounded, giving us a 70-66 win and the Championship banner!!! It was a total overall effort from everyone on the team. Liam Samson was named All Start and Moe Moweema was named MVP! …. Next stop, provincials! Go Ramblers!
