First proclaimed by UNESCO in 1999, this day honors the students who lost their lives in 1952 while advocating for the recognition of their mother language in Bangladesh. Today, it is celebrated worldwide as a reminder of the importance of protecting linguistic and cultural diversity. At MRSS, we are proud to have over 50 different home languages spoken by our students! Over the couple weeks, you have been hearing morning announcement greetings in some of these languages, and we will continue sharing them until March Break. If you would like to celebrate your mother tongue by doing a morning announcement in your language, please see Ms. Radmanovic. Let’s celebrate the languages that connect us to our cultures, families, and identities. Happy International Mother Language Day!
