Graduation 2021

MRSS is proud of our long history of formal graduation ceremonies and celebrations of student success. Our graduating class has much to look forward to in this, their grade 12 year, and in the future. As this is a highly unusual year, we will use Microsoft Teams to communicate with students and to keep them informed. Students are asked to check regularly so they know what is going on.
We are pleased to announce that we will be holding “live” graduation ceremonies at MRSS from Tuesday, June 1 to Friday, June 4, 2021. On each day we will run 5 grad ceremonies of approximately one hour in length. On each day 5 time slots are available. For example: Tuesday June 1, 2021 : Grad Ceremonies at 4:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm, 7:00pm and 8:00pm. To comply with health guidelines the maximum number of people present at each ceremony will be 50. Therefore, each ceremony will consist of 15 graduates, 30 guests and 5 staff. Each grad will be permitted a maximum of two guests to view the ceremony in person. However, each ceremony will be live streamed so those unable to be present may view from home.

Grads can choose time slots that are suitable for families. Grads can also choose groups so they graduate with friends. If being in a group is not important to a graduate, they may sign up as an individual. We ask grads and their families to think about dates, times and format and then sign up for a time slot. Sign up began on Monday, January 4th in room 1117. January 4, 2021. Time slots are available on a first come first served basis. Therefore, if a particular date and time are important, please form groups and sign up early. Should protocols change in the Spring that would not permit our in-person graduation ceremonies outlined above, we have a back-up plan for a virtual ceremony. Additionally, the $50 non-refundable cap and gown fee is due at this time. Students need to self-report their height in centimetres from the top of their head to the bottom of their foot. Please provide this information to Mr. Beale in room 1117.

Grad Trips – A Warning for Parents

Parents may have heard about a ‘Breakaway Tour’, ‘Grad Trip’ or ‘S’ Trip from your graduating student. Be advised that this is NOT a school-sanctioned event.MRSS does not organize grad trips – ever. These trips are organized by a private company and are in no way approved by nor affiliated with our school or school district. Parents are advised to do due diligence and contact the company directly for complete details. We have no contact details nor information about any trips – your student should be able to provide it to you.
