Africville was a historic Black community in Halifax that existed for over 100 years. Despite paying taxes, residents were denied basic services like clean water and paved roads. In the 1960s, the community was forcibly relocated in the name of “urban renewal.” Today, Africville stands as a reminder of the importance of listening to communities and respecting dignity, history, and belonging.
