After the American Revolutionary War, thousands of Black Loyalists came to Canada, many settling in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. They were promised land and freedom, but often received poor land or none at all. Despite this, they built strong communities, churches, and schools. Their resilience laid the groundwork for many of Canada’s oldest Black communities.
