Grade 8 Orientation Days - September 3 & 4, 2020
First Day of School
On September 2 & 3 we will host orientation sessions for grade 8s and we are excited to welcome you. There will be 2 sessions per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Students will be assigned a specific session to attend as we divide them into their cohort for the year. Parents will receive a message indicating which session their student is assigned to. Important note: Students cannot choose to attend a different session – they can only attend the session assigned to them. If they cannot attend, they will not attend school until the first day, September 10th.
For more information on the orientation sessions, please visit the Grade 8 Orientation tab on either the Parent or Student tab of the website.
Things to consider:
Entrance to the session is through the doors on the outside of the gym.
Students should not bring any supplies on this day – lockers will not be available
If your student feels more comfortable wearing a mask, they are welcome to bring one.
Hand sanitation stations will be available throughout the school.
Dress comfortably but appropriately for school.
Lunch will not be provided. The orientation sessions are either in the morning or afternoon – not all day.
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
All of our publications and notifications are sent home electronically so it’s important to be signed up on the Parent Portal. Another excellent resource is our free planner app available from the App Store – it’s free and safe to download.
You can also find out what’s happening daily by following us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/MapleRidgeSS) and Twitter (@MRSSsd42) and never be out of touch.
We have moved to an app for our planner which has been hugely successful! All grade 8 students will be given a paper planner, however, we recommend that students and parents download the app.

At this time we are in the planning stages of opening day. Please check in again closer to opening.
At MRSS we do not put out a list of school supplies for students. The essentials such as a binder filled with lined paper, subject dividers, pencils, pens, a ruler, highlighters, pencil crayons and a scientific calculator are the staples of school life and can be reused from previous years or purchased new – it’s up to you!
Students will need to bring whatever supplies they need on a daily basis – lockers will not be issued this year.
