Track and Field Run Away with Titles and Banners at Zone Championships

Congratulations to the Track & Field team for a strong performance at the Zone Championships. The Senior Girls won the Championship banner; led by Aliyah Adomi winner of the 100m in 12.65; Lauren Curtis winner of Hammer Throw; Elena Gabellini in 2nd; and Joanna Chen 2nd in 1500m. MRSS finished 2nd overall in all divisions out of 30 schools! Elijah Headley won the 1500m & 3000m titles. Aidan Evans won the Steeplechase , Derek Frempong the Junior Mens 400m. Claire Catherwood won the 400m with a 59.0 effort, Anna Jordison won a Silver medal in Hurdles, Dylan Naresh jumped 1.65m to earn 2nd in High Jump, Rinto Sugiyama earned two Silver medals in the 1500m and 3000m. The Grade 8 Girls dazzled the crowd with wins in the 4x100m and 4x400m events. Ava Rosse won the Grade 8 400m title in 66 seconds. MRSS qualified 23 athletes for the provincials at the zone meet. Coaches are expecting to carry a roster of just under 30 going into the championship in 2 weeks; the largest high school track meet in the country, hosting 2350 athletes from all corners of the province.
