Here are some more specific tips to consider:

Organization: Use a student planner and keep your binders, folders, locker and backpack neat; arrange for study buddy (someone you can call if you are absent or stuck on a question/assignment)

Time Management: Plan ahead to balance activities and social/family time with studying and homework

Preparedness: Be in class on time; adapt to different teachers; make sure homework is done and submitted on time; sit near the front; communicate with your parents and teachers; contribute to class discussions and group work; get enough sleep, exercise and good nutrition

During Class: Listen, take legible notes, pay attention for key ideas

Reading Text: Scan (pay attention to subtitles, words in bold/italic, summaries, questions), read and review

Studying: Set priorities, take breaks, study with a friend, highlight notes

Tests: Make sure you are studying what is important, ask Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?; review often and read out loud; use cue cards and memory tricks (like acronyms); take deep breaths and use positive visualization; leave difficult questions for the end; on multiple choice tests, read all answer choices and eliminate choices you know are incorrect; read true/false questions carefully (one word can often make a big difference); on essay questions, make a rough outline, use a topic sentence, use specific examples and details, summarize in your conclusion; check over your answers

The following website may be useful:

www.terrysmall.com

The following publications may also be useful:

How To Get Good Grades In Ten Easy Steps, www.woodburnpress.com
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Sean Covey
The 6 Most Important Decisions You Will Ever Make, Sean Covey

Iron Horse Youth Clinic 604.463.6268 (Greg Moore Youth Centre) Youth Crisis Line 604.540.2221 Anti-Bullying Awareness Conflict is to be expected; however, when the situation escalates into repetitive and targeted behaviour, you may need some additional resources. Please always consult parents and the adults at WSS to help you if you need it. The following links […]

{"0":"post-71","1":"page","2":"type-page","3":"status-publish","5":"entry
["GET
