{"id":56,"date":"2020-01-21T13:47:40","date_gmt":"2020-01-21T13:47:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/westview.coronationwebhosting.com\/?page_id=56"},"modified":"2024-11-28T17:54:31","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T17:54:31","slug":"awards-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/wss\/awards-scholarships\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Awards\/Scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>GRADES 10-12<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Letter Grades and Percentages:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A 100 &#8211; 86% excellent achievement<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">B 73 &#8211; 85% very good achievement<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C+ 67 &#8211; 72% good achievement<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C 60 &#8211; 66% satisfactory achievement<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C- 50 &#8211; 59% minimal achievement<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I below 50% incomplete<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">F 0 &#8211; 49% fail<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Westview Honour Roll:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be placed on the Honour Roll a student must achieve a minimum letter grade point average of 3.5 in their Westview courses at the grade 10 and 11 level. Students must be enrolled in at least 7 Westview courses to be eligible. Grade 12 students must achieve a minimum letter grade point average of 3.5 in their Westview courses. Grade 12 students must be enrolled in at least 6 courses at Westview.\u00a0 With the exception of online courses administered by Westview Secondary School, online courses are not considered when determining a student\u2019s Honour Roll standing. A student who receives a failing grade in any course is ineligible for Honour Roll.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each letter grade has the following value: A = 4, B = 3, C+ = 2.5, C=2, C- = 1. A student will receive special recognition with the following letter grade point averages:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4.0 Honour with Distinction<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3.5 &#8211; 3.99 Honour Roll<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Honour Roll will be published with the Learning Summary in June of each year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Westview Principal\u2019s List:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Principal\u2019s List is calculated at the completion of each school year and recognizes students who achieve an \u201cA\u201d standing in every subject.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Westview Grade 8 &#8211; 11 Awards Ceremony:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students who receive course awards will be honoured at an awards ceremony that takes place in the early fall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At Westview Secondary the staff recognizes students who demonstrate achievement in curricular areas and outstanding skills\/attributes based on the core competencies. Subject based awards are determined by departments and awards connected to the Core Competencies are determined through staff nominations which are completed in June of the school year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The WSS Awards committee sends out instructions outlining the process in June and the awards are handed out at an awards ceremony in the early fall. The awards recognizing attributes based on the\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Core Competencies are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Leadership Award &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This award is for a student who has demonstrated leadership throughout the year and connects to the curricular competency of Personal Awareness and Responsibility &#8211; being able to persevere, set-goals, manage stressors and recognizes &amp; advocates for themselves and others.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Citizenship Award<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; This award is for a student who is welcoming, supportive, and inclusive within our community, where others have felt safe and provided a sense of belonging. This student contributes positively to our school community, resolves problems peacefully, and develops and sustains healthy relationships both inside and outside the classroom.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Community Stewardship<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; This student demonstrates positive personal and cultural identity through a sense of self-worth, awareness, and identity. This student contributes overall to their own well-being but also the well-being of others within our school community in and out of the classroom.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Innovations in Creative Thinking &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This student demonstrates a curiosity and sense of wonder and joy in learning. They show a willingness to think creatively, and with complexity while reflecting on existing ideas and concepts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Innovation of Critical Thinking<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; This student demonstrates the ability to examine their own thinking and the thinking of others. They can challenge their own thoughts, ideas and assumptions of others and themselves.
