Westview opened as a Jr. Secondary School in 1972 – 73 with a student population of 169 and a complete staff of 16. Westview was the only Jr. High School in the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows School District.
In 1973, Westview opened its doors as the only Junior Secondary School in the school district. The Westview Wallabies (and later Wildcats) had a positive tradition in school athletics. The Wildcats’ Boys basketball teams were highly competitive at many levels, winning Fraser Valley championships and the 1989 Jr. Boys Provincial Championship. In girls’ basketball, in the early 2000’s the senior team was ranked in the top 3 of AA girls basketball for 3 consecutive years 2002-2004. Cam Neely and Larry Walker are among the recognizable Grade 10 graduates in Westview’s early years. Westview transitioned to a grade 8-12 secondary school in 1995; later that year, the first Grade 12 graduates crossed the stage. Over the years, members of Westview’s graduating classes have gone on to become notable community leaders, business leaders and professional and amateur athletes.
We have a wide variety of strong curricular programs and extracurricular programs. In Fine Arts, there are complete band, theatre and visual arts programs which host seasonal productions. We host the largest number of international students in the district. Our current Athletic program includes more than 20 teams in a wide variety of sports, complemented by a weight room and fitness center, and field complex second to none. We host a culture of humanitarian awareness that has raised thousands of dollars for victims of poverty, natural disasters; for cancer research, food banks, and others.
Westview is proud to look back and eager to look forward.
