As we inch closer to September 5<sup>th<\/sup>, we wanted to share some information that will make the school start up process clear.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Administrative Assignments<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you need to contact an administrator regarding a student issue, please see below for the appropriate person:<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Frend &#8211; Grade 12<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Curwen &#8211; Grade 8 \/ 10<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Woloszczuk &#8211; Grade 9 \/ 11<\/p>\n<p><strong>Student Fees\/Locker Distribution<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We encourage you to pay the $28.00 in student fees online as soon as possible (a portal announcement has been sent). \u00a0Mrs. Shamro will also be available in the office as of August 28 from 7:30 am \u2013 3:00 pm if you wish to pay fees in person (cash or cheque only).<\/p>\n<p>We will have an early locker distribution opportunity for students on Thursday, August 31<sup>st<\/sup>. \u00a0Students that come in on this day will get first choice of lockers within the bank assigned to their TA. To receive a locker students must:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>have paid student fees (paying via the portal will mean the process goes faster. Mrs. Shamro will also be taking cash and cheque payments at the school from August 28<sup>th<\/sup> onwards)<\/li>\n<li>have resolved any outstanding learning resource invoices, and\/or student fees from previous years<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Early locker distribution on Thursday, August 31<sup>st<\/sup> will run according to the following schedule. Students should arrive on this day with a printout of the receipt to speed up the process. (August 31<sup>st<\/sup> is the only date for early locker distribution. IF UNABLE TO ATTEND DURING THE SCHEDULED TIME, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SEND A FRIEND TO CLAIM FOR YOU. With the exception of the first day of school, TA starts at 8:30 and it is our expectation that students arrive on time. We will be running regular TA attendance reports and students with regular absences will be required to make up their missed time.<\/p>\n<p>All student absences must be excused by a parent or legal guardian or they will be recorded as \u201cunexcused,\u201d and parents will be contacted by the autodialer.\u00a0Absences reported to teachers may not always get excused, so be sure to contact the office in one of the following ways:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log into the parent portal and click the \u201cReport Absence\u201d tab. Select your child\u2019s name from the drop-down menu. Enter the date of his\/her absence or tardiness, as well as any other relevant details. <strong>*This is the preferred method to report an absence<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Call the school directly at (604) 463-2001 and press 2.<\/li>\n<li>Send a signed note with your student to the office prior to, or upon return from, an absence.<\/li>\n<li>Visit the office in person.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>If your child arrives late, please ensure that\u00a0he\/she\u00a0signs in at the office upon arrival.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Work At Home Applications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Information will be provided during the first week of school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grade 12 Parent\/Student Evening<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will have our first grad meeting of the year on <strong>Tuesday, September 26<sup>th<\/sup> at 7:00 pm<\/strong> in the Rotunda. We will cover all of the relevant information you need to ensure a successful grade 12 experience!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parent Advisory Council<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>THSS has a brand new PAC executive this year and they will hold their first meeting in the fall, however the date has not yet been determined. We will post this information on the website and the parent portal once it\u2019s been confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, welcome back! Our talented and energetic team of teachers and support staff is getting ready and looking forward to another successful year at Thomas Haney!
