They embraced challenges, pursued their passions, supported one another, and took ownership of their learning in ways that continue to inspire us. From Outdoor Education adventures, international travel, robotics competitions, theatre productions, music performances, athletics, leadership opportunities, service projects, and countless classroom successes, our school community continued to demonstrate the power of self-directed learning in action.

June was a fitting celebration of everything our students have accomplished. The month was filled with memorable experiences including our Outdoor Education students sailing at Rocky Point and a 20km hike at Watersprite Lake in Squamish, Peak Pod and Humanities 9 class visits to Stanley Park for the “Secrets of Stanley Park Tour”, senior English classes to attend a Shakespeare performance at Bard on the Beach, our Languages students going to the Vancouver Aquarium, our Career Life Education 10 students exploring Douglas College, our senior Phys. Ed. classes to Cultus Lake Waterslides, our Theatre students viewing “Come Away With Me” at the Arts Club theatre at Granville Island, and many other learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Students also showcased their talents through our Year-End Music Concert, Film Fest, Alumni Basketball Game, and numerous year-end field trips and celebrations. This past week featured 12 amazing student film productions that debuted at the NWF (New Wave Film Festival) at THSS. It was a sold out theatre for an incredible night of movies that were written, filmed, produced and acted by THSS students under the direction of Mr. Goodman and Biggar. Congratulations to our talented cast, crew, musicians, staff, and volunteers for delivering an outstanding series of performances. The dedication, creativity, and teamwork displayed throughout the production were truly exceptional.

Of course, the pinnacle of our year was celebrating the Class of 2026. Our Graduation Ceremony at Chandos Pattison Auditorium was a wonderful opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of an extraordinary group of 245 young people. As they crossed the stage and received their diplomas, we celebrated not only their academic achievements, but also the perseverance, growth, friendships, and memories that brought them to that moment. Friday night was our Grad Banquet and Dry Grad festivities that provide a fitting conclusion to our school year and their journey at THSS and allows us to celebrate together as a school community. This year’s Graduation Banquet was held on a beautiful evening at the spectacular setting of Swan-e-Set Bay Resort.

Screenshot

To our graduating students, thank you for the contributions you have made to Thomas Haney Secondary.
