Nothing showcased this more clearly than our annual <strong data-start=\"679\" data-end=\"732\">student-led THSS Craft Fair &amp; Food Truck Festival<\/strong> this past weekend.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"755\" data-end=\"1175\">This year\u2019s event was extraordinary\u2014<strong data-start=\"791\" data-end=\"806\">150 vendors<\/strong>, thousands of guests, and <strong data-start=\"833\" data-end=\"858\">90 student volunteers<\/strong> running every aspect of the fair, including 70 students managing the floor, 10 in our Teaching Kitchen, and 10 graduates returning to help. The feedback from vendors and visitors was outstanding. Over and over we heard comments about our students\u2019 kindness, professionalism, and pride in representing their school.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"755\" data-end=\"1175\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16690 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress1.blob.core.windows.net\/thss\/2025\/11\/IMG_3336.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"760\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1177\" data-end=\"1466\">This event is what makes THSS special. It\u2019s students stepping forward with leadership and ownership. It\u2019s staff mentoring, guiding, and cheering them on. And it\u2019s our families showing up to support, connect, and help build the culture that makes our school such a vibrant place to learn.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1468\" data-end=\"1838\">Another important note for families: <strong data-start=\"1505\" data-end=\"1572\">Learning Update #1 will be available for viewing on December 11<\/strong>. This update marks that we are already more than one-third of the way through the year. It offers an important snapshot of your child\u2019s progress\u2014celebrations, growth, and goals moving forward. Thank you in advance for taking the time to review it with your child.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1840\" data-end=\"2060\">Thank you for being such an important part of the THSS community. The video presentation\u2014thoughtfully created by students and staff\u2014was a powerful reflection on remembrance and service &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/8jO1HZ4zXVQ?si=m2MAC4HnOVp2AGEq\">VIDEO LINK<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><b>Grade 9 \u2013 Take Our Kids to Work Day<\/b><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2694\" data-end=\"2956\">Our Grade 9s spent the day across the Lower Mainland exploring a huge range of workplaces\u2014from CBC Radio, BC Hydro, and the RCMP Forensics Unit to local bakeries, schools, car dealerships, early learning centres, engineering firms, and community organizations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2958\" data-end=\"3125\">This experience helped students see real-world learning in action, make connections to future careers, and reflect on what meaningful work looks like in our community.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Post-Secondary Information Day<\/b><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3175\" data-end=\"3319\">Students from Grades 10\u201312 met with representatives from universities, colleges, trades, and the Canadian Armed Forces. Institutions included:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3320\" data-end=\"3625\">\n<li data-start=\"3320\" data-end=\"3364\">\n<p data-start=\"3322\" data-end=\"3364\">SFU, UVic, Capilano, UFV, TWU, VIU, UNBC,BCIT, KPU, VCC, Douglas, Corpus Christi \/ St. Mark\u2019s<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3422\" data-end=\"3463\">\n<p data-start=\"3424\" data-end=\"3463\">Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Canadian Armed Forces \u2013 RMC<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3422\" data-end=\"3463\">\n<p data-start=\"3424\" data-end=\"3463\">Events like PSI Day help students make informed choices about their post-secondary pathways and set clear goals for their future.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-16691\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress1.blob.core.windows.net\/thss\/2025\/11\/IMG_1796.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"149\" height=\"155\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><b>Oyster Tasting \u2013 Take a Bite of BC<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Our Culinary students had a hands-on learning opportunity through the <em data-start=\"1034\" data-end=\"1053\">Take a Bite of BC<\/em> program. Students sampled different varieties of BC oysters while learning about sustainable aquaculture, shellfish profiles, and culinary preparation methods. This memorable experience supports our Culinary Arts students in developing a deeper appreciation for local food systems.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16692 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress1.blob.core.windows.net\/thss\/2025\/11\/IMG_2390.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"163\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><b>Thund<\/b><b>erTech Robotics \u2013 Community Partnership<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>ThunderTech visited Pitt Meadows Plumbing to demonstrate their FIRST Robotics Competition robot and share their progress on this year\u2019s engineering challenges. In an exciting moment for the team, Pitt Meadows Plumbing presented a <strong data-start=\"1989\" data-end=\"2018\">$3,000 sponsorship cheque<\/strong>, supporting robotics education and helping students continue to innovate, design, and compete at a high level.<\/p>\n<h2>Connections \u2013 Criminal Law in Action<\/h2>\n<p>Connections students met with criminal defence lawyer <strong data-start=\"2239\" data-end=\"2251\">Kyla Lee<\/strong>, who walked them through real case studies involving rights, policing, and responsible decision-making behind the wheel. Students then visited the Provincial Court\u2014moving between courtrooms to observe live trials and see legal processes unfold in real time.<\/p>\n<h2>Fishing Club \u2013 Exploring Local Waters<\/h2>\n<p>Our THSS Fishing Club has been off to a fantastic start this fall, with two successful outings that brought together students of all experience levels. The group spent time at <strong data-start=\"296\" data-end=\"312\">Kanaka Creek<\/strong>, learning casting techniques and reading local water conditions, followed by a second trip to <strong data-start=\"407\" data-end=\"423\">Lafarge Lake<\/strong>, where students practiced catch-and-release skills and gained hands-on experience with urban lake fishing. These sessions offered a great mix of outdoor learning, patience, teamwork, and appreciation for our local ecosystems. The club continues to grow in both interest and enthusiasm\u2014well done to all who have participated so far!<\/p>\n<h2>\u201cA Pop with a Cop\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>RCMP members hosted an informal mentoring and Q&amp;A session in the THSS Library. Students considering careers in policing or criminology were able to hear firsthand about training, career pathways, and community policing while enjoying a relaxed Y-block meeting.<\/p>\n<h2>Connections 11 x Outdoor Education at Camp Capilano<\/h2>\n<p>Last week, our Connections 11 and Outdoor Education students spent an unforgettable night at Camp Capilano \u2014 hiking the trails, gathering around the fire, and soaking in the beauty of the North Shore mountains. A perfect blend of adventure, connection, and fall outdoor learning. Thanks to Mr. Williams and Mr. Connolly for providing this valuable learning experience.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Fall Sports Updates<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Girls Volleyball<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; The Girls Volleyball teams (Grade 8, Junior &amp; Senior) gathered last week for a celebration of a successful season. The team had a meal and then coaches spoke to the team&#8217;s growth and accomplishments and presented a few player awards. Thanks to the players for representing THSS so well and to the coaches for their mentoring and guidance of our student-athletes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Junior Boys Soccer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Closed out the league with a <strong data-start=\"3329\" data-end=\"3342\">2nd place<\/strong> finish, demonstrating impressive consistency and teamwork.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Senior Boys Soccer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Competed at the Fraser North Championships, representing THSS with strong play and determination.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Wrestling <\/b>&#8211; Our newly formed Wrestling team continues to gain momentum. Sixteen dedicated student-athletes have been training intensely and competed in their first meet of the season on <strong data-start=\"4019\" data-end=\"4042\">November 27 at MRSS<\/strong>\u2014a great milestone for this growing program.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Senior Boys Basketball <\/b>&#8211; This weekend the Senior Boys Basketball team captured the <em data-start=\"156\" data-end=\"198\">Maple Ridge City Tournament Championship<\/em> in truly thrilling fashion. The Thunder opened with a strong win over Maple Ridge Christian, followed by a hard-fought semifinal victory against MRSS. The final matchup against Westview was one for the books\u2014down early in the second half, the team battled back and sealed the championship with a <strong data-start=\"496\" data-end=\"513\">buzzer-beater<\/strong> to claim the first city title in program history. <strong data-start=\"618\" data-end=\"633\" data-is-last-node=\"\">Go Thunder!<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Aquatics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211;
