{"id":1136,"date":"2024-10-22T22:39:01","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T22:39:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/srt\/?page_id=1136"},"modified":"2024-11-15T18:47:23","modified_gmt":"2024-11-15T18:47:23","slug":"code-of-conduct-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/srt\/code-of-conduct-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Code of Conduct"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Student Code of Conduct: The Rights of all Titans<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All of the expectations we have for our SRT community stem from the following \u201cRights:\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Everyone has the right to learn and teach.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Everyone has the right to feel safe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Everyone has the right to make a positive contribution to the school.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Everyone has the right to decent treatment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, here is a review of our Code of Conduct and some key reminders for students and parents from that code of conduct:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attendance<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students are expected to attend ALL classes they are scheduled for, unless they are officially excused by a parent or for a school event.\u00a0 Calls should be made to the office prior to 8:30 am if a student will be absent for the day.<\/li>\n<li>Students are responsible for work missed during their absence, and should arrange with their teachers to make up that work as soon as possible.<\/li>\n<li>**NEW** ALL ABSENCES WILL BE TEXTED TO PARENTS\/GUARDIANS AT THE BEGINNING OF FLEX.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Lates<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students need to be on time for class, meaning they are in their seats PRIOR to the bell.<\/li>\n<li>Students who are continuously late should expect to receive consequences.\u00a0 Being late wastes everyone\u2019s opportunity for learning.<\/li>\n<li>Students should go straight to class if they arrive within 30 minutes of the bell.\u00a0 If they are more than 30 minutes late for class they should go sign in at the office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cell Phones and Devices<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Effective September 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2024, students in all grades (8,9,10,11,12) will only be permitted to access cell phones and personal digital devices during class time if directed by teachers for educational purposes. This will include flex time. Students can freely access their phones before school, at lunch, and after school. If there is an emergency and parents need to connect to their student during school hours, they should not hesitate to contact the front office.There may be situations when the school will permit a student to use a personal digital device for the purposes of inclusion and accessibility.\u00a0 Examples of those are digital literacy, communication, medical and health needs and as defined with an individual education plan.\u00a0This change has been made at the request of classroom teachers and educational assistants who want student attention to be focused on social connection, academic achievement, and building interpersonal skills. the staff.<\/li>\n<li>Students should not take photos or videos of anyone without permission, and should not circulate any photos or videos if they are not sure of whether that permission was originally obtained.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Signing in and Out<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If a student is leaving the building for any reason, they must sign out at the office.<\/li>\n<li>Students are required to supply a note from home, or phone call approval must be received prior to a student being signed out.<\/li>\n<li>In case of an emergency and\/or an evacuation it is extremely important for SRT to know the whereabouts of every student.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Behaviour Expectations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We expect a peaceful environment, with no violence; including but not limited to intimidation, harassment, fighting, bullying, assault and the use of weapons.\u00a0 This includes the use of explicit language and images.<\/li>\n<li>We expect no one in our building be in the possession of or distributing illegal substances (drugs\/alcohol) on school property, or any school function (in any location).<\/li>\n<li>We expect our students to respect the building, and have no vandalism or theft of school property, from classrooms to general areas, as well as the outdoor facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Smoking\/Vaping is not permitted on school property.\u00a0 Students are required to be in the designated areas for either activity, and will face consequences if caught anywhere else.<\/li>\n<li>Grade 8s are not permitted in the smoking area at any time. Grades 8 and 9 are not permitted to vape or smoke.<\/li>\n<li>Out of bounds area: Albion Park and its trails are OFF LIMITS for all SRT students between 8:30 am- 2:40 pm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Field Trips<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students must obtain the proper forms and permissions to attend any field trips associated with SRT.<\/li>\n<li>All field trips will be arranged via the Parent Portal.<\/li>\n<li>Students are responsible for completing any work missed during their absence.<\/li>\n<li>Student who are unable to follow school rules may be banned from field trips<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Academic Honesty<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cheating and plagiarism are not tolerated, by any teacher, in any class.<\/li>\n<li>Cheating on assignments and exams is taken very seriously.\u00a0 This includes sending photos of exams to other students, possessing \u201ccheat notes\u201d in any form and communicating with any other student during an exam.<\/li>\n<li>Plagiarism will be take as seriously as cheating.\u00a0 Submitting or presenting any work of another person as your own is considered to be theft.\u00a0 That includes written or oral work, images, video or audio.<\/li>\n<li>(Under Development at SRT) The following guidelines on AI are those of the University of British Columbia. \u00a0 We have written\u00a0<em>SRT<\/em>\u00a0instead of\u00a0<em>UBC<\/em>\u00a0and<em>\u00a0teacher<\/em>\u00a0has been substituted for<em>\u00a0instructor;\u00a0<\/em>otherwise, the wording remains the same as UBCs. \u00a0We have not included all the details of the UBC\u2019s guidelines, for brevity purposes. A more detailed look at UBC\u2019s \u00a0can be found here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/academicintegrity.ubc.ca\/chatgpt-faq\/\">UBC Academic Integrity<\/a>.The use of ChatGPT or other generative AI tools does not automatically equate to academic misconduct at SRT. At this time, whether the use of AI tools in courses is or is not allowed is a course or classroom-level decision and there is no overall, SRT-wide ban on its use in teaching and learning. \u00a0Individual teachers should clarify expectations with their students early in the term, such as on the syllabus.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If using ChatGPT and\/or generative AI tools on coursework has been\u00a0<strong>prohibited\u00a0<\/strong>by the teacher, then using these tools would be considered to be academic misconduct.<\/li>\n<li>If using ChatGPT and\/or generative AI tools has been\u00a0<strong>permitted\u00a0<\/strong>by the teacher, then instructors should make sure to convey the limitations of use and how it should be acknowledged and use should stay within those bounds.<\/li>\n<li>If the use of ChatGPT and\/or generative AI tools has\u00a0<strong>not been discussed or specified<\/strong>\u00a0by the teacher, then it is likely to be considered as prohibited as an example of the \u201cuse or facilitation of unauthorized means to complete an examination or coursework\u201d and more specifically as \u201caccessing websites or other online resources not specifically permitted by the instructor or examiner\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Dress Code<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The school district is committed to providing students with learning environments that are safe, responsive, and inclusive. The district recognizes that decisions about dress reflect individual expression of identity, socio-cultural norms, and that they are personal.<\/p>\n<p>Students may attend school and school-related functions in dress of their choice provided that their choices:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conform with established health and safety requirements for the intended activity;<\/li>\n<li>Do not represent or promote alcohol or drugs;<\/li>\n<li>Use respectful language;<\/li>\n<li>Do not depict or promote violence, gangs, racism, sexism\/sexual exploitation or discrimination; and<\/li>\n<li>Are not intimidating to others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ultimately, the school administration has the responsibility to interpret and apply the dress guidelines when necessary.
