SUMMARY:Krispy Kreme donuts fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:As we approach Spring Break\, our Leadership students are organizing a fundraiser to support SRT families who may need extra assistance during the break. During the winter season\, SRT staff identified a number of families experiencing financial challenges\, and we know this need continues beyond the school year. \nRecent demographic data from Fraser Health highlights communities between Whistler and Hope have drawn attention to food insecurity across the region\, including Maple Ridge. With this in mind\, our Leadership students are hoping to make a small but meaningful difference for families during the two-week Spring Break\, when students no longer have access to school-based food supports. \nWe invite you to support this initiative by purchasing a box(es) of Krispy Kreme donuts for $15/each. All proceeds will be used to purchase grocery gift cards for families in need. Donut orders will be available for pick-up on February 26.  If you check out with cash\, please follow up with cash.  Pre-orders give us a good idea of how many dozens we can commit to selling.  Also to note\, these doughnuts freeze up beautifully for future use. \nThank you for your continued generosity and for helping us care for our school community.

SUMMARY:Gr 11 Youth Development Instrument (YDI)
DESCRIPTION:Our Grade 11 students will be writing The Youth Development Instrument (YDI). This online self-reported survey is implemented by researchers from the CHART Lab at Simon Fraser University (SFU)\, and it helps to identify resources\, opportunities and practices that affect positive youth development. It is administered annually and has been in place since 2020. \nThe YDI collects data that is used collectively\, and not individually\, to better understand the holistic developmental trends\, health and well-being of adolescents in British Columbia. In the Spring Term\, we receive a general report that summarizes how our students as a group are doing with their social\, emotional and mental health. We use this data to provide a baseline of the overall health of our students in these areas\, and it informs the supports we put in place for our students going forward. \nStudents will be invited to complete the 35 – 40 min online survey during one regular class period. Schools decide the date of survey implementation\, and the survey will be administered by school personnel. The YDI will be implemented at our school on March 4th. \nPlease review the Parent/Guardian Informed Passive Consent Letter attached to this email and Parent/Guardian YDI FAQ. If you would prefer that your student not participate in this survey\, please fill in the bottom section of the Passive Consent Letter and email it to me at andrea_clayton@sd42.ca  or let the YDI team know (ydi@sfu.ca). Only complete this section if you do NOT want your student to participate. We would appreciate the return of the permission slip within the next two weeks. \nIf you have any questions\, feel free to email me at andrea_clayton@sd42.ca.  You can also email the YDI team at ydi@sfu.
