{"id":179,"date":"2014-07-10T20:20:28","date_gmt":"2014-07-10T20:20:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/schools.sd42.ca\/pmss2\/?page_id=179"},"modified":"2025-07-04T08:57:41","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T15:57:41","slug":"electronic-devices","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/pmss\/electronic-devices\/","title":{"rendered":"Electronic Devices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pitt Meadows Secondary School\u2019s mission statement includes \u201cpersonal growth in a safe, caring, and inclusive environment\u201d.\u00a0 The following are examples with areas of concern which may arise but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>inappropriate use of the recording devices found in cell phones;<\/li>\n<li>an increased rate of interruption caused by cell phone use in classrooms;<\/li>\n<li>cheating occurring during tests using text messaging;<\/li>\n<li>increased rate in theft of electronic devices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Guideline Statement<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The use of technology, specifically cell phones and listening devises such as iPods are not to interfere with teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Should an issue arise with a student having an electronic device<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A staff member will listen to the student\u2019s account and discuss the guideline.\u00a0 We are hopeful a resolution may be achieved at this point.<\/li>\n<li>If, after the assessment of the incident with the student, the staff member remains concerned that the student is not understanding the guidelines, a report is made to Administration.<\/li>\n<li>The Principal or Vice Principal will meet with the student.\u00a0 We are hopeful a resolution may be achieved at this point.<\/li>\n<li>If a resolution is not achieved, communication with home will occur at this time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Should use or serious inappropriate use of recording devices continue<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The consequences of a confirmed act of inappropriate use of electronic devices include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conversation and student project to improve an understanding of why we have guidelines.\u00a0 Communication with home would occur at this time, or earlier;<\/li>\n<li>Forwarding of information to R.C.M.P. when it is found the law has been broken.<\/li>\n<li>Suspension, either in or out of school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Updated:\u00a0 August 2024<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>See the school&#8217;s Code of Conduct for new policy with respect to cell phone use in the classrooms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pitt Meadows Secondary School\u2019s mission statement includes \u201cpersonal growth in a safe, caring, and inclusive environment\u201d.\u00a0 The following are examples with areas of concern which may arise but are not [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_genesis_hide_title":false,"_genesis_hide_breadcrumbs":false,"_genesis_hide_singular_image":false,"_genesis_hide_footer_widgets":false,"_genesis_custom_body_class":"","_genesis_custom_post_class":"","_genesis_layout":"","footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-179","page","type-page","status-publish","entry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/pmss\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/179","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/pmss\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/pmss\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/pmss\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/pmss\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=179"}],"version-history":[{"count":10,"href":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/pmss\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/179\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":11551,"href":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/pmss\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/179\/revisions\/11551"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/secondary.sd42.ca\/pmss\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=179"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
