Dear Garibaldi Secondary families,
On Sunday, January 31, 2021, we shared with you a follow-up letter stating that the individual confirmed to have COVID-19 who attended Garibaldi Secondary on January 18 and 19 is a close contact to a person in the community who has a variant or type of COVID-19 virus that may spread more easily.
Out of an abundance of caution, Fraser Health recommended that students and staff who may have been in contact with the case report for testing on Monday, February 1, 2021.
Today, Fraser Health is providing an update, advising that Public Health has found no evidence of spread to other staff and students. While test results did confirm that the individual who attended Garibaldi Secondary on January 18 and 19 was infected with the UK variant of COVID-19, the 87 students and staff that public health identified as potentially exposed to this case when they were at school tested negative for the virus. Additional details are available in the attached letter from Fraser Health.
I know this has been a challenging few days and I sincerely appreciate the patience, cooperation, and support shown by Garibaldi Secondary school administration, staff, and families. I am pleased to confirm that the third quarter will begin tomorrow, Thursday, February 4, as scheduled.
As a reminder, if you have any health questions or concerns, please contact 8-1-1.
Sincerely,
Harry Dhillon
Superintendent of Schools
