Dear Grad 2021 Families:
I’m writing to provide information about our planning for 2021 grad ceremonies and events. At this time, we are amid a significant health action designed to support our long-term community health. We know nothing is more important than the health of our families, but we also know the holiday is a time of connection in which conversations relating to June and graduation planning may come to the forefront.
We are committed to supporting events of celebration and significance for our graduates. We will, of course, be compliant with every current and future health regulation. At this time, we have developed a set of plans that are flexible and, we anticipate, compliant with current and future guidelines.
We will not be hosting a large dinner dance or dry grad event. These events are designed to be all inclusive, a chance for everyone to celebrate together. All the secondary schools in SD42 have made this common decision. In place of this event we will look to host a set of limited student socials. We envision a number of early evening photo opportunities with catering from the school chef occurring in mid May. We will use the Quarter 4 learning groups to support the expectations of limited contact. Our goal is to allow graduates to collect, mingle and be proud of their progression towards graduation. Tickets will be sold in April.
The School Leaving Ceremonies will occur in smaller groups with limited guests over the week beginning June 7th. We anticipate that the groupings will consist of roughly 10 to 13 students with 2-3 guests each. All provincial guidelines will be followed for these small ceremonies to safeguard the health and safety of our students, staff and families. A Portal message linked to the purchase of grad cap, stole and gowns as well as a confirmation of participation will come in the new year.
We do care greatly about the celebration and recognition of the accomplishment of graduation. We are thoughtfully working to find the balance between community health, personal safety, inclusion and celebration. I know that this letter has provided limited details, however, it was important to share our initial plans to support you in your long-term planning.
Please be sure to stay connected and look for updates on the Grad 2021 tab of the GSS webpage. At this time your son or daughter should have had their grad photos taken and have submitted their yearbook write up. Last chance for grad photos is December 15 at GSS. Grad Clothing deadline is Friday, December 18th. Details are posted online at: https://gsscareercentre.wordpress.com/grad-2021/. We take great pride in keeping the Grad webpage up to date.
Please have a healthy and safe winter break. If you have specific questions or concerns, feel free to contact me by email.
